Science for Everyday Decisions #10: Environmental Education: Bob Jickling

CIES 2020: In preparation for 2020 Comparative and International Education Society (CIES)'s annual conference workshop titled, "Charting an SDG 4.7 Roadmap for Radical, Transformative Change in the Midst of Climate Breakdown", we are speaking with experts in the field of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

In a special workshop session at CIES, moderated by Christina Kwauk (Center for Universal Education, The Brookings Institution) and Radhika Iyengar (Center for Sustainable Development, Earth Institute, Columbia University), the contents of these interviews with experts will launch a series of discussions among workshop participants.

We had the pleasure to learn from Bob Jickling, Professor Emeritus of Lakehead University-Ontario, who has been a true thought leader in the field of environmental education for over 30 years.

He shares his perspectives on the evolution of Environmental Education to Education for Sustainable Development and poses important questions for thought on the role and presence of education in the environment and sustainability discourse.

("SDG 4.7. by 2030 ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development")
